Prinx Chengshan Tire North America (PCTNA) has initiated a recall of over 541,000 winter tires sold in the United States due to insufficient snow traction, which poses a significant crash risk.
The recall encompasses more than 100 sizes of the following tire models:
- Fortune Tormenta
- Prinx Hicountry
These tires bear the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol on their sidewalls, indicating suitability for winter conditions.
Reason for Recall:
Although these tires passed European traction tests, they likely do not meet North American safety standards. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warns that tires lacking adequate snow traction can increase the risk of accidents.
Next Steps for Owners:
- Notification: PCTNA plans to notify owners by mail starting February 1, 2025.
- Remedy: The company is currently developing a solution to address the issue.
- Contact Information: Owners with questions can contact PCTNA customer service at (310) 205-8355, extension 109, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
Safety Recommendations:
Drivers using the affected tires should exercise caution in snowy conditions and consider replacing them with compliant winter tires to ensure optimal safety.
